GUE SYMBIOS CCR TRAINING · MEXICO

GUE CCR training on the Halcyon Symbios.

A progressive route from CCR Fundamentals into technical rebreather diving, taught in Puerto Aventuras with the equipment, gas and local support needed for a focused training week.

Where the Symbios fits into GUE training

The Halcyon Symbios is an approved platform within GUE's CCR training pathway.

For a diver entering the GUE rebreather pathway, CCR Fundamentals is the starting point. It develops the foundation needed to operate the unit within the GUE system before progression into deeper and more complex technical CCR diving.

For an existing GUE CCR diver trained on the JJ-CCR, CCR Fundamentals on the Symbios is also the crossover course. It provides the unit-specific training needed to add the Symbios to an existing GUE CCR qualification.

The unit is important, but it is only one part of the course. Buoyancy, trim, propulsion, teamwork, situational awareness, gas planning and disciplined responses to problems remain central. The objective is not merely to operate the rebreather when everything is working. It is to understand the complete system and remain effective when it is not.

For the current formal prerequisites and course requirements, check GUE's CCR Fundamentals information before making travel or equipment commitments.

The GUE Symbios pathway

CCR Fundamentals

The entry point to GUE CCR training.

The course introduces Symbios operation, preparation, monitoring, core skills, team procedures and the responses needed when information or unit behaviour is not as expected.

CCR Technical Diver 1

Progression into technical CCR diving.

CCR Tech 1 builds on CCR Fundamentals and the required post-course experience, adding decompression, mixed-gas planning and the procedures needed for more demanding dives.

Further progression

Training develops as the pathway matures.

Availability depends on the current GUE curriculum, unit approval at each level and instructor qualification. Contact me for the current position rather than assuming that every course can be conducted on every unit.

CCR Fundamentals on Symbios

A five-day course for divers entering the GUE CCR pathway or crossing over from the JJ-CCR.

I normally schedule CCR Fundamentals over five days. The course combines academic work, equipment preparation, dry practice and structured in-water training. It is demanding because the diver is learning a new life-support system while still being expected to maintain the control and team awareness established in Fundamentals.

Symbios CCR Fundamentals classes require at least two students. This is not simply an administrative requirement: GUE training is built around team procedures, communication and the ability to support another diver effectively.

Do not buy or substantially reconfigure equipment immediately before class without discussing it first. A short conversation early in the planning process can prevent expensive or disruptive changes later.

Planning the course

Tell me which Fundamentals qualification you hold, your recent diving, previous rebreather experience if any, the unit and associated equipment available to you, and the dates you are considering.

Symbios training in Puerto Aventuras

Mexico is my home base. I work with Zero Gravity Dive Center in Puerto Aventuras, where the training infrastructure, gas, cylinders, absorbent and access to appropriate water allow the week to be organised around the course rather than improvised around it.

The Riviera Maya also offers useful options for diving after training. That matters because completing a course is the beginning of building experience on a rebreather, not the end of it.

Established CCR supportLocal experience with the gases, absorbent, cylinders and equipment needed for rebreather training.
Reliable conditionsWarm water and a range of suitable sites provide options for structured development.
Training and continued divingThe possibility of adding appropriate dives before or after the course helps turn training into practical experience.

Training with direct Symbios experience

My work with the unit goes beyond holding an instructor qualification.

I was the first instructor to teach the Symbios and have been involved with the unit since before it was first made public. I have contributed to the development, writing and review of training materials and continue to work with the equipment in training and diving.

I am a GUE Instructor Evaluator on Symbios and an approved Halcyon Symbios factory trainer. That combination gives me a view of the unit from the perspective of a diver, instructor and evaluator.

Students should expect clear explanations, careful preparation and direct feedback. The aim is not simply to complete the prescribed exercises. It is to leave with a workable understanding of the unit and a reliable basis for continuing to develop.

Common questions about GUE Symbios training

Do I need previous CCR experience?

Not necessarily. CCR Fundamentals is designed as the entry point into the GUE CCR pathway, provided you meet its current prerequisites and are properly prepared.

Can I complete the class alone?

No. A Symbios CCR Fundamentals class requires a minimum of two students.

Do I need to own a Symbios before arranging training?

No. Rental Symbios units are available for training in Mexico. If you decide to buy, I can also supply a unit and help you select a configuration that fits your training and intended diving.

I am already a GUE CCR diver on the JJ-CCR. What training do I need?

CCR Fundamentals on the Symbios is the crossover course for an existing GUE CCR diver trained on the JJ-CCR. Contact me with your current qualification and recent experience so that we can confirm the appropriate preparation and arrangements.

What if I am already certified on Symbios?

If you want to revisit knowledge and critical skills rather than undertake another certification, the independent Symbios CCR Tune-up Day may be more appropriate.

Planning GUE training on Symbios?

Tell me where you are in the GUE pathway, what recent diving you have done and whether you already have access to a Symbios. We can then work out the correct course, preparation and practical arrangements.
